About

Why another blog about women’s stories?

For a long time I had been thinking of making a blog to help give another voice on the internet for women’s stories. Seeing the young women at the Javitz Center clutching each other in tears and the op-eds of Democrat fathers uncertain what to tell their young daughters after the 2008 Presidential election made me sad. Perhaps liberal progressive women voters lost more hope than women in general? This was an unusual election in many ways, but any young  women losing hope for their future should not be one of the outcomes from the election results.

I thought that as I found stories on the internet that I would gather them. I could make a basket of positive role models to be discovered by others, as well as giving me a positive outlet in collecting and researching stories. My blog would be another set of links of stories and women for search engines to find to add that additional small voice to the world wide web.

A female friend in hearing of this blog said she did not understand the need or purpose because women shouldn’t need inspiration from other women. She thought that men’s stories should be included because men could also be inspirational. Yes, people can be inspired by everyone, but I do think there is a need for inspiration and role models from other women. There is room for my blog in a corner of the internet with a focus on women’s stories.

What struck me was that having merely started the blog that anyone would take the effort to critique my intention by throwing cold water on my nascent efforts. That questioning the value of the voices from my first few posts was in a way a questioning of my value and my voice. Perhaps her comments only emphasized the point that there is a need for women to encourage each other rather than push each other down?

Obviously I am not alone in my view on women wanting, and perhaps even needing, inspiration from other women. If we do not have support in our own lives, then maybe we can find the support from stories of others. Thankfully in my life there is support, including my husband’s, which is very much appreciated.

I have found several blogs and themed news sections about women role models. I will be collecting a set of links to share of others who share my views of wanting more voices and stories of women.

My emphasis may be on women in STEM careers because that is my personal interest and background.

If you find this blog, then please comment and you are welcome.

History of blog:

Basic… goal is to encourage the fulfillment of dreams. I am a supporter of women and believe in the power of a woman’s spirit to help make this world a better place for everyone.

The site was moved over to official domain 01/3/2017. This is a very new blog – just started in 11/2016. This blog will be intermittent, as I find the time.

I also have a couple of other blogs that setting up on completely different topics, so spend my time writing on different things based on interest of the day. I plan to do more work on this blog, but this is just a new blog and not found my pacing and swing.
